Position Summary

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept The Portland State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides the intellectual foundation for the liberal and professional education of students at Portland State and for the enhancement of the quality of life in the metropolitan area. The College consists of departments across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
Position Summary The Department of Sociology at Portland State University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin September 2016. Candidate’s research and teaching strengths should be in the field of urban sociology, broadly defined to include those with expertise in quantitative, qualitative, and/or cross-national methods. Our ideal candidate will have publications and record of grant-seeking appropriate to the rank, and be able to contribute to both teaching and research for PSU’s substantial investment in social sustainability.

The Department of Sociology offers the Ph.D., Master’s and bachelor’s to nearly 400 majors. Faculty specialties include Criminology, Education, Environment, Family, Gender, Medical, Race/Ethnicity, Social Class/Stratification, Social Movements, and Urban Sociology. A successful candidate will be able to contribute to the department’s strengths in these areas.

Primary Activity I – Instructional
Minimum Qualifications – Ph.D. in Sociology or related field. ABDs must have Ph.D. by September 15, 2016.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement The starting annual salary rate for this position will be dependent upon qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
