Postdoctoral position
Applications for a position as a postdoctoral research fellow (postdoc) at the Department of Sociology at the University of Copenhagen are hereby called for. The postdoc position is part of the interdisciplinary research project “Understanding Intergenerational Transmissions: A Cross-Disciplinary Approach” (UNITRAN). The postdoc is a fixed-term position lasting two years (24 months), starting on September 1st 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description
The postdoc is part of the UNITRAN project which, combining theoretical and empirical insights from sociology and economics, seeks to develop new approaches to analyzing intergenerational transmissions and social mobility. The UNITRAN project is funded by the European Research Council and runs in the period 2013-2017. Applicants are expected to have a PhD degree in sociology, economics, or in a related discipline.
The postdoc will be part of a research team which, in addition to the Principal Investigator in charge of the UNITRAN project (Professor Mads Meier Jæger), includes two PhD students, one additional postdoc, and two affiliated senior researchers (Richard Breen, Yale University, and Paul Bingley, The Danish National Centre for Social Research). Moreover, the postdoc will be part of the strong research environment at the Department of Sociology, University of Copenhagen.
The postdoc is expected to carry out research, both independently and in collaboration with other team members. The UNITRAN project is based around quantitative analysis of large-scale datasets, and the postdoc must have proven skills in the application of quantitative methods, especially those designed for causal inference. Previous experience working on intergenerational transmissions or social mobility, for example in the PhD, is an advantage but not a requirement. Although rooted in sociology, the UNITRAN project is cross-disciplinary by design, and applicants with backgrounds in other disciplines, for example economics, are encouraged to apply.
The postdoc position is a full-time research position and does not involve any teaching obligations. Note that the position will not contribute to a broadening of pedagogical competencies. Therefore, the postdoctoral position may not alone qualify for appointment as associate professor/senior researcher.

Salary and conditions of employment
Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary for postdoctoral researchers is within the range DKK 383,000 – 402,000 (EUR 51,000 – 53,600 app.). In addition to the salary paid directly to you, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to your pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of your salary. After the expiry of the deadline for applications, applicants are selected for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an expert assessment committee. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
