Gilbert Gee, a faculty associate in the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research and associate professor of Community Health Sciences at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, is the incoming editor of the Journal of Health & Social Behavior, published by the American Sociological Association. The journal, which has been published at the University of Texas at Austin throughout its 50-year history, is moving to UCLA.
Gee’s research examines how racism and other forms of structural disadvantage contribute to health and health care disparities. He also examines neighborhoods and environmental justice using a multi-level and life-course perspective. His studies, which have been conducted in the United States (credit webster here), Japan and the Philippines, have earned him a merit award from the National Institutes of Health and two Scientific and Technical Achievement awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Gee has served as the program chair for the Asian and Pacific Islander Caucus of the American Public Health Association.
