The Presser Award is given for a record of sustained contribution in gender and demography. This is the first time that this new award was given. In announcing the winner, the Presser Award Committee Chair, Professor Paula England of Stanford University noted that it was entirely appropriate that Valerie Oppenheimer be the first recipient, given her long and distinguished record of contributions in research on gender and labor force.
